She's spectacular! This is one bright daguerreotype! The facial tint and the blues of her attire sparkle. There is something on the table, but we can't tell what it is.

There is pencil handwriting in side the case. It appears to read "J D Wells Northampton Mass." We presume this applies to the sitter and that she had her daguerreotype made on a foray into New York City from western Massachusetts.

"WESTON" is stamped at the bottom of the brass mat. We've seen this stamp on many daguerreotypes. This is likely James P. Weston who practiced from 1842 - 1857 and was a Daguerreian supplier at times. He was the most well-known of the Weston surnames found in Craig's Daguerreian Registry.

SIZE. Half plate.

HOUSING. Split case.

CONDITION. Resealed in 2007 (not by us). There's an oval shape filled with light colored marks above her hand at left. I can't decide whether that's a fashion accessory or a blemish. There's a white spot on her dress towards the lower right corner.

APPEARANCE. Bright. Excellent contrast. Amazing details to her attire and accessories. Color is a major plus. A stunning portrait!
