The two men, representing different generations, stand side by side. The younger rests his arm on the shoulder of the older. They both wear headbands and ponchos, and they both have bare feet. The older man holds a prized cane.

Handwritten in pencil on the back: "Araucanian Indians" and "Chilean."

DATE. Judging by the mount, this dates to the late 1860s or the very early 1870s.

SIZE. Approximately 4 1/8 x 2 9/16 inches.

CONDITION. Photo: Soiling at lower left. Small mark at upper right, on the edge. Some tiny spots. When tilted, mirroring is apparent. Mount: Some wear at corners and at bottom edge. Some soiling on front and back.

APPEARANCE. Excellent, rich tones. Masterful lighting on their faces. Sharp details. A stunning portrait.
